Weight Loss Drugs And The True Value Of Fitness
I’ve been churning out content on my Instagram page and through my weekly newsletter. If you aren’t following along, what are you waiting for? You should totally do that (just click here for Instagram and here for the newsletter).
Regardless, if you only check the site and don’t keep up with me on other mediums, I don’t want you to miss out on all the fun. So, here is a conglomeration of the fitness facts, tips, and stories I’ve shared this past week. Enjoy.
Why You (Probably) Shouldn’t Resort To Weight Loss Drugs
If you had access to a pill that promised effortless weight loss, would you take it?
Yesterday, my client asked me about Wegovy, a prescription weight loss drug.
Besides the fact that he wasn’t a candidate for this drug, I can think of at least 47 reasons why resorting to a weight loss drug is a bad idea.*
Here are the top 3:
Side effects including pancreatitis, gallbladder and kidney issues, severe allergic reaction, and elevated heart rate.
Risk of dependence. If you did lose weight, you’d need to keep taking it to keep the weight off.
Missing out on the best benefits of healthy change. Establishing new habits, improving self confidence, and feeling empowered to make change are three effects that a pill will never give you. Earning improved fitness, on the other hand, will create a ripple effect improving all aspects of your life.
Weight loss medications and surgery are a risky last resort, not a fast pass to your dream body.
*Some are actually eligible, and may benefit, from drastic measures. I’m speaking to those who don’t need to, but consider it regardless.
Why I Didn’t Mind Making $8/Hour
My first personal training job paid $8 an hour.
If I was a smarter man, I would’ve went into finance, marketing, or strapped on my helmet, picked up my axe, and started mining for bitcoins.
But I’m not and I didn’t. My bank account will suffer for it but my conscience won’t.
I’m in the business of helping you do uncomfortable things for results you’re not guaranteed to see.
Even if you do have success, you need to continue doing uncomfortable things to maintain it.
Not the best business proposition.

In hindsight, I should’ve just been an ice cream man.
Here’s why. Ice cream is:
•Immediately pleasurable
•Never painful
•Always fun
Plus, when you buy ice cream, you know exactly what you’re getting.
Selling ice cream has to be the easiest job on the planet. Who, assuming you tolerate dairy, doesn’t like ice cream?

Fitness is not an ice cream sundae. It’s less instant and un-fun at times. It’s difficult and the reward is delayed.
Come to think of it, that’s what makes it so terrific and meaningful.
You can’t put a price on self confidence, high energy, and great health. That’s what prioritizing your fitness can offer.
Best of all, just like investing, your fitness efforts compound over time. Figuring out an effective workout routine or way of eating today will pay off BIG TIME over the next 10, 20, or 50 years.

Sweaty squats and Brussels sprouts may not have the appeal of an Oreo blizzard. However, a healthy lifestyle offers a deeper satisfaction than the instant gratification of frozen sugar milk.
Sustainable fitness habits are not flashy or enticing. They’re not. That said, good health enhances everything - relationships, fulfillment, and overall quality of life.
To me, that’s what makes my job (and that $8 starting salary) 100% worth it.
