I’m Not Doing It Today
It's 11:52am. I told myself I'd be done with work by noon because it's Sunday and I don't work on Sunday afternoons.
But there's a problem. I onboarded four new clients yesterday and ran out of time to write this week's article. That's a great problem to have, but I want to publish every week. So here I am with three options:
Blow past my cutoff and work all afternoon
Rush something out that isn't worth your time
Keep it short, tell you the truth, and leave you with one thing that actually matters
We're going with three!
Here it is: do the important things. You don't need to do everything. And often, trying to do everything is worse because it leads to frustration and burnout.
To grow this business, I need to:
Deliver excellent coaching and genuinely help people — done this week
Publish content so people understand what I do — done this week (follow me on Instagram if you don't, posting 3-4x weekly now)
Have real conversations with people who might benefit from working together — done this week
Do all of it in a way I can sustain for years — only true if I close the laptop in the next five minutes
The same logic applies to fat loss. You need to:
Eat the right amount of calories and protein, most of the time
Strength train 2-4x a week
Sleep 7-8 hours
Do it in a way that doesn't require you to be perfect — because you won't be, and the people who account for that are the ones who actually make progress
It's 12:02pm.
See you next week!
Best,
John
