3 Things I Learned In 2024
Looking back on 2024, I’ve learned some valuable lessons—about patience, perspective, and gratitude. These lessons have helped me grow, both in business and in life.
Here are three that have shaped my thinking this year.
1. Things Longer Than You Think
Success never happens as quickly as we expect.
Two years ago, I had fewer than 10 online clients and was uncertain about my progress. By 2024, I finally hit the goals I had set for myself in 2022—goals that seemed far off at the time.
Most people quit when they don’t see immediate results—whether it’s in fitness, business, or any other area. The bar for showing up consistently is so low that if you stick with it, you’ll outlast most others. I’m not the smartest or even the hardest working. But I show up every day for years, and will for decades.
If you show up and play the long game, it’s hard to lose.
2. Take What You Do Seriously, Don’t Take Yourself Seriously
In 50 years, most of the things I stress about today won’t matter. In 500 years, they’ll be forgotten entirely.
Yet, this doesn’t mean my work isn’t important.
The small, everyday tasks we commit ourselves to—whether it’s a training session, an email, or a conversation with a client—still matter in shaping our lives and the lives of others. Finding meaning in these mundane moments is key to staying engaged and having fun.
Taking what I do seriously, but not taking myself too seriously allows me to keep a sense of perspective that makes the work more enjoyable. It brings a sense of lightness to the hard work that makes the process more fulfilling.
3. It’s Hard to Be Grateful and Stressed at the Same Time
When I think about how lucky I am, it puts things into perspective.
I was born to loving parents who gave me everything I needed. In a time and a country full of opportunity, freedom, and comfort. Compared to my grandfathers that worked in the coal mine and on the farm, I’ve had a very easy life. Compared to 99.9% of human history, my life is an exception—marked by ease, security, and choices that few have ever had.
I also have my health, and my family is healthy. And I’ve been fortunate to have mentors who’ve shaped my work ethic and led me to a career I love. With so many good things ahead, it’s easy to put daily stresses—like traffic or dealing with a difficult patient—into perspective. When I focus on the things I’m grateful for, it’s hard to stay stressed.
Gratitude has a way of making life’s little annoyances feel much smaller.

P.S. The best meal in Houston, Nancy Cakes and a cheeseburger from Nancy’s Hustle! Tastes even better when it’s post bourbon and pre holiday break.
Not to be dramatic, but I see God when I bite into that burger.
