Your Body Does More Than You Think
A Contact Lens and a Realization
I plopped my contact lens in the other day and immediately thought: WOW.
I’m blind as a bat—until I take 30 seconds to stick these little magic shields on my eyeballs. And then? Crystal-clear vision for 12–14 hours. Dude, WHAT. I don’t even think about it most days, let alone appreciate it.
Now imagine that in the 1600s. You hand a nearly blind Jamestown settler a contact lens. He pops it in—and boom. Instant HD. His head would explode. Right there under his little pilgrim hat.
And that got me thinking.
We Take Our Health for Granted
Our bodies are freaky good at keeping things running behind the scenes.
You can just sit there doing absolutely nothing, and still—your body digests food, filters blood, regulates temperature, fights off tiny invaders, balances hormones, and fires the exact muscles needed so you don’t slump out of your chair. Oh—and your brain cranks through 70,000 thoughts a day. Some of which are even helpful. (And some of which are just… exploding pilgrim heads.)
It feels like magic. But it’s not.
Behind the Curtain
It’s more like The Wizard of Oz—once the curtain gets pulled, you realize it’s not spells and smoke. It’s a delicate system, quietly holding everything together, until something goes wrong.
Sometimes that’s small—like a headache, or a stomach bug. And the second it’s gone, you think, “Oh my gosh, it feels amazing to just feel normal again.”
Other times, it’s bigger. A diagnosis. A fall. A wake-up call.
We can’t prevent everything. And yes, it’s scary.
But here’s the thing.
Your Body Is Miraculous—Because It’s Adaptable
Every meal you eat, every hour you sleep, every rep or walk or stretch—it all sends a signal. It either supports your system or stresses it.
This is what makes real change possible.
You don’t need perfect genetics. You don’t need to “go hard” every single day. You just need to consistently send better signals—through movement, nutrition, recovery, and daily choices that support your health instead of drain it.
If you’re feeling great about where you’re at? That’s amazing. Keep going.
If you know you could give your body a little more love—but you’re not sure where to start?

One Final Reminder
Your body is doing a million things right now just to keep you going.
Show it some love. Because while we can’t control everything… we can control a whole lot more than we think.
And that starts with how we treat the one body we’ve got.
Best,
John
P.S. We usually only have s’mores once or twice a year—summer vacation and the holidays with Kelly’s family. I used to say I could take them or leave them. But I’ve officially changed my mind: s’mores are one of the greatest things on earth. A perfect, melty little miracle.
