Yes, You Can Eat Pizza and Lose Weight
Most Saturdays—when the stars align—I’ll have half a Delta 8 gummy, one drink out with Kelly, and an objectively unhealthy meal. Easily 1,000+ calories. Usually dessert, too..
Last week, it was a new Indian fusion spot in Houston. I ate my weight in something called layered sheermal. Unbelievable.
This is my favorite time of the week.
The gummy. The drink. The ridiculous food. And most of all—being with the love of my life in a season where we’ve got two incomes, no kids, and no real obligations outside of locking our apartment door behind us.
It’s heaven.
And as we walked the mile home—sweating through the meat sweats in the Houston heat—I thought:
This is what I actually sell.
Not the gummy. Not the sheermal. (Although frankly, both are way easier to sell than spinach, steps, and sleep.) What I help people build is the ability to enjoy moments like this frequently—without guilt, shame, or damage control.
In a word: margin.
People Are Shocked To Hear I Drink Alcohol and Eat Pizza
I’m in good shape. Not cover-model shape. But strong, lean, consistent—and most importantly, free.
So people are surprised when they hear I drink alcohol. Eat pizza. Take an edible once or twice on the weekend. Not exactly the image most people picture when they think “fitness coach.” But here’s the part most people miss: The people who stay in shape year after year—through job changes, vacations, injuries, holidays, and chaos—they’re not more disciplined than you.
They just have more margin.
Not more time. Not more motivation. Not more willpower. Just a setup that works with their life, not against it.
Because when most people try to get healthy, they assume it has to mean:
More workouts
More cardio
More restriction
More sacrifice
But the real key? It’s creating a life that can take a hit—and still hold together.
That’s what margin gives you. Without it, nothing sticks. And that’s what I help my online fitness clients build. Here's what that looks like in real life.
Four Reasons My Clients Can Eat Pizza and Still Make Progress
(And why you can too)
Some common patterns I’ve noticed in the people who stay lean, strong, and sane—year after year.
1. They Indulge Mindfully (Not Automatically)
"Mindful" gets tossed around a lot, but here’s my definition: They pause before eating something that doesn’t align with their goals.
Not forever. Just for 10 seconds. They ask: Is this cookie a 9/10 experience or a 3/10 distraction? And they skip the 3s. That’s it.
They don’t need every moment to be perfect—they just try not to waste calories on food they didn’t even enjoy.
2. They Don’t Tie Their Worth to Food or Bodyweight
If they overeat, they don’t spiral. They don’t say “I ruined everything” or fall into food shame.
They say, “That wasn’t ideal. Let’s move on. We’ll get ‘em next time.” Because fitness isn’t a win-or-lose game—it’s a practice. A flow. A never-ending refinement. And no amount of spinach or skipped Sheermal is going to save you from death eventually, so you might as well enjoy the ride.
No morality. No shame. Just a little data and a plan for tomorrow.
3. They Eat Well and Train Hard to Put Themselves in a Great Position
Allow me drop a quick truth bomb: Most people don’t have margin because they haven’t earned it yet.
I’m a Cowboys fan, and it hurts. They overpay the wrong guys, let the right ones walk, and show up behind before the game even starts. The Eagles? I hate ’em—but they get it right. Smart drafts. Smart signings. Always prepared (even if their players spit on people). That’s margin. One team has it. One doesn’t.
Want to eat more freely without gaining fat? Earn it. Lift consistently. Improve your health. Lose the weight.
It takes months or years—but once you’ve got it, you’re playing a completely different game.
4. They Understand What Actually Matters
They’ve stopped demonizing foods like pizza or sugar.
They know fat gain comes from a consistent calorie surplus—not a single day. They know muscle isn’t lost from skipping two workouts. And more importantly, they realize moments matter. If you're mentally logging every bite at your anniversary dinner or tracking macros while your kids open birthday presents, that’s not discipline—that’s dysfunction.
Margin means you can live fully without compromising your results. That’s freedom.
Margin is the real flex.
Saying yes to the pizza. Yes to the martini. And knowing you’re still making progress.
If that kind of freedom is what you’re after, this is exactly what I help my clients build.
